OUR MISSION
Is to enhance the well-being of the show horse community through various charitable programs that benefit horse people, horses and the relationships they create.
Growing Programs
Following an event that led NSBA Past President Steve Heckaman to realize how the horse community comes together in times of need for fellow members the National Snaffle Bit Association Foundation, Inc. was officially formed in 2009.
Our Responsibilities
To assist in maintaining and securing new funding for educational efforts, programs, and associated interests to benefit the show horse industry through the National Snaffle Bit Association Foundation.
The NSBA Foundation’s programs can be broken down into 5 Pillars of Work – each of these is a focus of the Foundation’s effort to enhance the well-being of the show horse community through various charitable programs that benefit horse people, horses, and the relationships they create.
Animal Welfare
In the Best Interest of the Animal
One of the NSBA Foundation's core pillars of work; promotes quality of life for all animals in the horse commuited (Pause For Awareness, Yearling Sale Buckets) and Mental Health Awareness for all.
Pause For Awareness
Providing water bowls at the NSBA World Championship Show for horse show dogs in addition to promoting humane treatment, training, and handling of our equine Best Friends
Yearling Sale Buckets
With the purchase of each yearling at the Markel Insurance Breeders Championship Futurity Yearling Sale, the NSBA Foundation provides a complimentary bucket to help ensure the yearlings remain hydrated as they transition to their new homes.
Mental Health Awareness
Our mission is to foster a supportive environment for our members by providing access to mental health resources, promoting awareness, and encouraging open dialogue within the equestrian community.
Champion Fund
Development and planning any other program
An unrestricted fund that allows the Foundation Board of Directors to consider funding opportunities and needs in the community as they may arise during the year.
Dianne Eppers Cowgirls ROC Award
Honors women in the equine industry for their selfless contributions to the equestrian community. Recognizes individuals who generously share their time, talent, or resources to support the industry.
Campaigns
Silent Auction - Largest single event fundraiser for the Champion Fund, held annually in August at the NSBA World Championship Show in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Spring Appeal - A printed fundraising appeal that is mailed to the NSBA general annually.
Year-End Appeal - Occuring in the last four months of the year, it combines mailed and social media efforts to support our Pillars of Work.
Crisis Fund
Caring for NSBA trainers in a time of crisis
Established to help fellow horse trainers, the Crisis Fund is part of the longstanding support the National Snaffle Bit Association offers its professional members.
Criteria requirements
Assistance is limited to any NSBA member, or immediate family member, who is a horse trainer by primary occupation.
Professional’s Pledge
Since 2017, an average of over $30,000 annually is paid out to professionals in times of need. The Professional’s Pledge challenges trainers to support their peers in times of crisis by committing to donate to this campaign.
Education Fund
Creating educational and leadership opportunities for all equestrians
The NSBA Foundation’s scholarship fund relies strictly on donations and accepts donations of any size as well as special memorial scholarship contributions.
Tomorrows Horsemen®
Tomorrows Horsemen® is a two-year program designed to support the development of emerging equine professionals’
Coaches Summit
A three-day workshop for therapeutic riding industry professionals and professional equestrians.
Three Scholarship Opportunities
NSBA Foundation Scholarship - Awarded annually in the amount of $2,000, based on academic merit and financial need.
T. Joe Jeane Memorial Veterinary Scholarship - Awards one $12,000 scholarship to a full-time veterinary medicine student every three years.
Susan Scott Memorial Scholarship & Youth of the Year Award - One award of $4,000 annually to the NSBA Youth of the Year Award recipient. Up to four national finalists, annually, may be additionally recognized with $1,000.
Equestrians With Disabilities Fund
Provides opportunities for riders with disabilities to compete
Fostering the health and well-being of people through their relationships with horses.
Sponsor A Rider
Provides support for riders participating in the Equestrians With Disabilities, and the veteran Heroes on Horses® programs, by assisting in funding their NSBA World Championship experience.
90 Riders In 90 Days campaign is a yearly goal to obtain grants for ninety Equestrians With Disabilities.
Heroes On Horses®
Heroes On Horses® is committed to recognizing and thanking the men and women who have gallantly served our country.
Three majory events are annually held:

-Heroes On Horses® Central | NSBA World Championship Show | Tulsa, OK | August
-Heroes On Horses® East | All American Quarter Horse Congress | Columbus, OH | October
